Picture: Christian G.E. Schiller at Chateau Petrus, Pomerol

The Wine-Searcher issued a  list of – according to its data base - the top 50 Most Expensive Wines in the World. Prices are as at mid-2012, based on average prices for a standard 750ml bottle, across all vintages. Information is drawn from the Wine Searcher database of 35,379 price lists, totaling 4,868,175 wine offers.

Two prices are shown. Both are in US$. The first one is the average price and the second one is the maximum price.

Interestingly, the list is dominated by wines from the Bourgogne with 36 of the 50 wines on the list from the Bourgogne.  Only 5 wines from Bordeaux made it to the list. Three Champagnes are one the list, all of them from Maison Krug.

  1. Wow, I love seeing all those Burgundies on the list. There is more to French wine than Bordeaux! Mais oui!
