In the Glass: 2006 Do Kraja Sveta from Serbia
It is not yet easy to find Serbian wines that are up to international standards in these days, due to 50 years of Yugoslavian-style socialism and 15 years of war and political repression and unrest, although things are rapidly changing in this lovely country in the Eastern part of Europe.
On my recent visit to Belgrade, I detected a number of very promising wineries. One of them is “Do Kraja Sveta” (At the end of the world). I had the:
2006 Cabernet Sauvignon
Selection
Do Kraja Sveta
Serbia
The Cabernet Sauvignon was dark, ruby in the glass, attack of cassis on the nose, juicy and full fruit on the palate, very much new world styles packed with fruit. A lovely wine.
The Do Kraja Sveta wine labels on the front and the back are both nicely designed. But there is a long story on the back label which looks interesting, but which I was not able to read. Equally, the web site is all in Serbian. Furthermore, Serbia is increasingly using the Cyrillic alphabet. That makes it even harder to read Serbian.
Just a small note - “Do Kraja Sveta” translates as end of world not street.
