Rhonéa Vignoble is a Coopérative in Vacqueyras and Beaumes de Venise including a nice restaurant - Le Dolium - at the cellar in Beaumes de Venise.
We had a lovely lunch at Le Dolium. Before lunch, we stopped at the cellar in Vacqueyras, where we enjoyed a tasting.
Beaumes de Venise
The wines of Beaumes de Venise are grown on the slopes around the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, a vertical comb of rock jutting out of the plain between the Rhône river and the Luberon-Ventoux mountains.
Beaumes is famed for its natural fortified wine made from the Muscat grape, and records of its use go back almost two millennia. More recently it is also the producer of a high quality red wine.
In 1943 the natural Sweet Beaumes de Venise Muscat was accorded its appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC), to be followed in 1956 by an AOC for its Côtes du Rhône.
The red, white and rosé wines were elevated to the appellation of Côtes-du-Rhône Villages AOC (named villages) in 1978.
In 2005, the rouge and the sweet fortified wine became a cru - the highest order of the wines in the Rhône Valley.
Lunch at Le Dolium in Beaumes de Venise
Le Dolium is listed in the Michelin Guide with an Assiette Michelin. The food is exceptionally good - full of Mediterranean influence and Provencal fragrances.

Vacqueyras
Vacqueyras received the Côtes du Rhône appellation in 1937, and in 1955 was promoted to Côtes du Rhône Villages status, becoming a named village in 1967.
In 1990, Vacqueyras was granted its own AOC, the first in the region since Gigondas in 1971, and the first of a number of candidates for that particular honour,recently bestowed to Beaumes-de-Venise and Vinsobres.

Tasting at Rhonéa Vignoble in Vacqueyras
Rhonéa Vignoble in Vacqueyras sells most of its wines in bottle, but also in bag-in-box and from tank, where you bring your own container. Bringing your own container and buying 10 or 20 liters for home consumption is quite widespread in France.
