The Cordero di Montezemolo estate, located in the Piedmont region of Italy, is a historic winery known for its production of high-quality Barolo and other regional wines. Owned by the same family for 19 generations, the estate is located in the town of La Morra, at the heart of the Langhe area.

Falletti family origins: The estate's history dates back to 1340 when the Falletti family first acquired the Monfalletto property. Inheritance: In 1941, the estate was passed to Paolo Cordero di Montezemolo, a nephew of Countess Luigia Falletti, who had no direct heirs. This marked the modern commercial era for the winery. Modernization: Paolo pioneered global distribution for the wines, which had previously only been sold regionally. Current day: Today, the estate is run by Giovanni Cordero di Montezemolo and his children, Elena and Alberto.

Location: The Monfalletto estate is a rare contiguous vineyard of 28 hectares, with additional holdings in the prestigious Villero cru in Castiglione Falletto, plus other plots in Alba and Roero. Organic farming: Since 2013, the estate has used certified organic farming practices and does not use chemical pesticides or herbicides. They also use "green" energy and recycle rainwater.

Key wines: The estate is primarily known for its Barolo wines, especially the Monfalletto Barolo and Barolo Enrico VI, which comes from the Villero cru. They also produce other regional wines, including: Arneis, Barbera d'Alba, Dolcetto d'Alba, Langhe Nebbiolo, Chardonnay.

Barolo Monfalletto

Origin: The Monfalletto Barolo is a blend of Nebbiolo grapes from various vineyard plots within the contiguous, single estate in La Morra. La Morra's terroir is known for producing Barolo with softer, more approachable characteristics. Production: Grapes are fermented separately, then aged for 18–24 months in a mix of French and Slovenian oak. Aging PotentialMonfalletto Barolo has the structure to age for decades.

Cordero di Montezemolo: The company’s flag, its symbolic wine, the label that more than any other embodies the history, heritage, culture and essence that Cordero di Montezemolo aims to express through its work. A Barolo made from the unification of all the plots cultivated in La Morra, minus the small quantities of grapes selected from parts of them for the production of Barolo Gattera and Barolo Riserva Gorette. Barolo Monfalletto is our biggest production, thanks to the large extension of vineyards from which it originates, which cover an area of about 14 hectares. Each part of the hill is harvested separately, choosing the best moment for each one. Vinification and ageing in wood follow individual paths and the final blending of all the lots takes place only at the time of bottling. Its main characteristics are its pleasantness, delicacy and readiness to drink, making it a Barolo that can be enjoyed from an early age. Our history, our present, our future.

Barolo Enrico VI

Origin: This wine comes from a specific two-hectare plot in the highly-prized Villero cru, located in Castiglione Falletto. The site is separate from the main estate and features a cooler microclimate and compact clay soil.

Cordero di Montezemolo (wine searcher)

Cordero di Montezemolo is an Italian wine producer based in the northeastern wine-producing region of Piedmont. The estate is primarily planted to Nebbiolo for the production of its select range of Barolo wines, from its Barolo Riserva Gorette, to the single-vineyard Enrico VI Barolo and Barolo Chinato.

The Cordero di Montezemolo family have been the proprietors of the Monfalletto estate in Barolo since the 14th Century. Today the management of the estate falls to Giovanni Cordero di Montezemolo and his two children, Elena and Alberto. Together, they oversee the management of 38 hectares (94 acres) of vineyards, mainly planted to Nebbiolo, with smaller quantities of Barbera, Dolcetto, Chardonnay and Arneis.

The family's Nebbiolo vineyards are predominantly found at the original Monfalletto estate and encompass approximately 17 hectares (42 acres) situated nearly 300 metres (1000 feet) above sea level. The grapes for the Barolo Riserva Gorette wine are sourced from the oldest vines on the southeastern slopes of the Gattera cru vineyard.

This riserva wine is only produced in small quantities – around 1000 bottles – in the finest vintages. The wine is aged in small French oak barriques for approximately 44 months and is then aged in bottle for a minimum of six years.

The estate's original Nebbiolo vineyards have also been supplemented by the purchase of a two-hectare (five-acre) portion of the Villero cru vineyard in Castiglione Falletto, which provides the basis for the winery's Enrico VI Barolo label. The family also owns vineyards in Roero where it cultivates Barbera grapes for its Barbera d'Alba wines.

Cordero di Montezemolo's portfolio also includes several single-varietal white wines from Arneis and Chardonnay, both grown on estate-owned vineyards in the Langhe region.

The estate's Viaventi spumante is a blend of Chardonnay (95 percent) and Pinot Noir (5 percent) grapes. The wine is produced using the Methodo Classico method and spends approximately 30 to 48 months on its lees. A Grappa di Barolo and Barolo Chinato are also produced.

The estate also boasts a number of homestay vacation options, known as AgriSuite, on the property.
