Dear wine aficionados,
I and my family had a beautiful and very interesting summer (yes it was extremely hot, but we like warm weather): we traveled extensively through Italy’s Tuscany region and tasted besides many excellent Chianti Classicos, Brunellos di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano the exquisite Bolgheri Bordeaux blend wines such as Sassicaia of Tenuta San Guido, Ornellaia, Grattamacco, Il Nicchio, Ludovico, Tenuta di Biserno of Marchese Lodovico Antinori. On the way home to Frankfurt, we spent one week in the breathtakingly beautiful Trentino-Alto Adige region, visiting wineries and the stunning Dolomites.
I hope all of you had a fantastic, relaxing summer with some nice wines to sip. It is time to think about wine travel in the fall, when the days and nights have cooled off: I am organizing a wine tour through the Loire Valley traveling from West to East: from the Muscadet region close to the Atlantic Ocean up to Sancerre, which is touching the Burgundy region.
The Loire belongs to France's Crown Jewels. For centuries, French kings have spent their summers on the banks of the lovely Loire River and drank the wonderful wines that grow in the region. Still today their magnificent Châteaux and the fantastic wines are attractions for every visitor.
The Loire Valley is a vast wine region stretching for about 600 miles from the Atlantic Ocean to the Auvergne mountains. There are five main, distinctively different wine regions, each with its own characteristic grapes, appellations, and wine style. On our wine journey we will discover all of them.
Loire Valley wines are difficult to grasp: the region is very complex: there is no varietal or style to associate with, which makes it complicated to clearly put a mark on the region. The Loire Valley is home to 87 appellations and produces wines of a sheer diversity of styles and varietals, ranging from bone dry to sticky sweet dessert wines, red, white, rosé, vinified in both still and sparkling format. That's why this incredibly beautiful region is so very interesting to discover and to explore. You never get bored, there always is something new to discover. The Loire Valley wines also provide the best value in terms of drinking pleasure / price. When traveling through the different Loire wine regions I am sure you will be smitten with the quality of the wines across the board. And: the Loire region is not just heaven for wine lovers, it is also a paradise for cheese mongers.
This tour is 90% booked up, however I have one room (double or single occupancy) left. So hurry up and reserve this room to avoid being left out. I set the prices well before the Dollar crashed vis-à-vis the Euro. I chose to not increase the price. My decision is based on the fact that most people signed up before the Dollar crash.
