Second Stop: Bolgheri (Tuscany)

Location and Atmosphere: Located on the beach at Via dei Cavalleggeri Nord, 27, 57020 Marina di Bibbona, while it has a Michelin star, the restaurant maintains a relaxed and informal "beach shack" ambiance. It features a dining room with a rustic feel, a small covered porch, and a terrace with sea views, used primarily in the evenings.

Cuisine: La Pineta specializes in seafood dishes, focusing on fresh, local catches prepared with simplicity and finesse. Signature dishes include squid risotto with sage and black truffles from the local stone pine grove.

History and Ownership: The restaurant was originally a simple lido with a restaurant, opened by the Zazzeri family in the early 1960s. Luciano Zazzeri, a fisherman by trade, transformed it into the Michelin-starred establishment it is today. Sadly, Luciano passed away in 2019. His sons, Andrea (front of house) and Daniele (in the kitchen), now continue his legacy.

By car you drive through a pine wood and practically reach the water's edge, facing a horizon of beach, sea and waves, to the left you’ll notice a small low house that almost looks like an ordinary beach establishment: actually, it is the historical fish restaurant of the Zazzeri family, Daniele in the kitchen and Andrea in the dining room. Always true to themselves, without any need to look for sudden modern changes of direction, the simplicity of the cuisine, which matches the vintage style of the rooms, is their absolute direction, both in the pairings and in the ultra-classic cooking techniques; as long as the quality of the fish (mostly local) and the comforting quality of the end result remain unchanged, it will always be a pleasure to recommend this place above the fashions.

La Pineta (Cool Hunting)

The late fisherman and chef Luciano Zazzeri took over La Pineta in the ’80s, reinventing his family’s casual seaside eatery and earning a coveted Michelin star in the process. Simply referred to as “la baracca” (or “the shack”) by locals, La Pineta became the go-to seafood spot in Marina di Bibbona for its food, wine and magical location. The restaurant is so close to the sea, it’s practically hovering over the water (parking is right on the pine forest-lined sand). Make your way through a tasting menu of marinated mackerel with ricotta and caramel, baked fish with rosemary and tomatoes, and spaghettini with peppered mussels—accompanied by a beautiful, bold red.
