Annette Schiller in her announcement: What comes to your mind when you hear ‘Loire Valley’? Of course images of glorious Châteaux pop up in your mind. Yes that is true and we will visit some iconic château and dig deep into France’s history. However, during this wine tour we also discover a magnificent, but often overlooked French wine region and one of the most exciting best kept secrets of excellent, high quality wines at very reasonable prices. The Loire Valley wine region is a vast area and consists of several distinct wine regions, each with its own characteristic grapes, appellations, and wine style. We take you on a journey from the Atlantic Ocean to the Auvergne mountains to explore this unique region. We learn to appreciate “Sancerre”, "Pouilly-Fumé", “Vouvray", “Chinon”, as well as many other not so familiar appellations.
Talensac Market (wanderlog)
A true Nantes institution, the Marché de Talensac is the city’s oldest and most renowned market. Since 1937, it has brought together producers, artisans, and traders every morning, offering a wide variety of products: seasonal fruits and vegetables, fish and seafood, cheeses, meats, and local specialties. It’s the perfect place to taste the flavors of the region and experience the authentic atmosphere of a traditional market.
Talensac Market is a historic 1930s market hall in Nantes, France. With over 100 vendors offering a wide range of products including cheeses, meats, pastries, chocolates, and ready-made dishes, it provides an authentic glimpse into local life. As the oldest and largest market in Nantes, it is renowned for its abundance of fresh seafood, vegetables, cheese, wine, and other delicacies.
Michelin Guide: Next to the Marché de Talensac, an impressive wine bar/bistro: appealing wine - inspired decoration, excellent food based on quality products (Italian cold cuts, rough - and - ready canaille dishes, fresh fish) not forgetting – the clue is in the name – a memorable wine list (1,500 types), with a particular penchant for Burgundy.
We did not go there, but it was on my short list. Next time.
