Annette and I attended Véritable 2019.
Véritable is a very special wine trade fair.
It takes place at the historic Weingut Aloisiushof, owned and run by the Kiefer family, right in the middle of St. Martin, a charming wine village in the Pfalz.
It is rather intimite event with about 100 hand-selected producers from all over Europe, but mainly Germany, presenting their wines.
Overwhelmingly elite producers are presenting their wines and it is not some sales representave who is pouring the wine, but typically the owners themselves. For instance, the Weingut Dr. Loosen wines were poured by Ernst Loosen himself. I saw Nic Weiss, Steffen Christmann, Sebastian Fürst, Guenther Künstler, Edel and Hanspeter Ziereisen, Anne Trimbach, Remy Grasser, Markus Schneider, Volker Raumland, Goerg Prieler, Lucas and Johanna Picjler, to name a few others, behind their table pouring the wines.
Among the people tasting the wines, you find restaurant owners, sommeliers, journalists, bloggers and wine retailers. They all pay Euro 50 for lunch finger food, coffee, water and the dinner party. If you want to participate, you have apply and wait for a confirmation by the organizer before you can pay and participate.
Véritable is a half-day event, but there are always side events including this year a welcome party at the Deidesheimer Hof the evening before and a special lecture by Fritz Keller from Weingut Franz Keller.
The invitation was sent out by Uwe Warnecke (Initiator) and Philipp Kiefer (Gastgeber).
Uwe Warnecke - friends call him Crazy Uwe - was for many years Maître d’Hôtel and Sommelier at the Deidesheimer Hof and has excellent contacts in the wine world. He is the mastermind behind Véritable. He selects the wine producers as well as the visitors.
Weingut Aloisiushof was founded in 1950 by Alois and Rita Kiefer. Today, it is owned and run by the families of the 3 sons of the founders. Philipp Kiefer joined the winery a few years ago and is now in charge of the cellar. Philipp Kiefer and Uwe Warnecke had the idea of organizing véritable.
