Effective July 1, 2011, the German National Railway Deutsche Bahn serves only German wine on its' long-distance trains. The new wine list includes 3 white wines, 3 red wines and 2 Sekt (sparkling wines). “The quality of these wines is outstanding. We are happy that "Deutsche Bahn" promotes these wines domestically and internationally with this new list", said Monika Reule, CEO of the German Wine Institute (DWI). The roof organisation assisted "Deutsche Bahn" to realise this project. Some 600.000 bottles red- and white wine as well as 150.000 bottles of Sekt à 0,25 l were sold in 2010 in ICE- und IC- long-distance trains.

The Wine House Brogsitter with a 400 year old family history and located in the Ahr-region offers a 2010 Pinot Gris (Grauburgunder) from its' Rheinhessen vinyards. Fans of eco wine may choose a Dornfelder from the winery Lorenz. Matthias Keth, a dynamic young vintner and member of the association "Message in a bottle" created a Pinot Blanc (Weissburgunder) for Deutsche Bahn. The Palatinian Wine Association Vier Jahreszeiten, which ranks among the Top vinerys in Germany according to the German Agrarian Corporation DLG contributes a Portugieser wine.
A NV Rotkäppchen-Sekt from the Rotkäppchen-Mumm cellar rounds up the new wine list. The Rotkaeppchen-Mumm group accounts for about half of German Sekt production. Germany is one of the largest sparkling wine markets in the world. One out of four bottles of sparkling wine is consumed in Germany. 3 of the 5 largest producers of sparkling wine are German wineries. Sparkling wine produced in Germany is called Sekt.
