Over the past couple of decades, an impressive wine bar scene has developed in Vienna. Generally, outstanding and very interesting wines are served at these places. See: Schiller’s Favorite Spots to Drink Wine in Vienna, Austria. One of Vienna’s institutions, when it comes to wine bars, is Meinl’s Wein Bar.

The Place

Part of Julius Meinl am Graben - a delicatessen temple playing in the league of Harrod's of London or Fouchon of Paris – Meinl’s Wein Bar is a wine bistro in the Meinl store. It is small and cozy, set in the basement of Meinl, accessible through a separate entrance that's open long after the delicatessen has closed.
Open Monday to Saturday 11am to midnight.

In addition, Meinl's Restaurant sits on the first floor and offers tables with unique views down the famous Graben and Kohlmarkt. In Meinl's Café you can treat yourself to the finest coffees, from Meinl To Go you can find great offers and wonderful dishes to take home.

The Wines

In addition to a list of 30 Austrian and international wines by the glass, you can choose from a selection of over 2000 international wines sold in the store for 10% over the shop prices. Glasses of wine start at 3.80€ and can go up to as high as 25€.  Wine lovers like me like to savor the atmosphere, sample the breathtaking collection and take advantage of the advice and guidance offered by Gordan Bukovcan and his team.

The Food

The food is cold antipasti, cheese, charcuterie and even sushi. In addition, for those who find themselves in the city at lunchtime, between 11.30 and 2.30 Meinl’s Wein Bar offers a 2 course daily menu for around Euro 10, including a glass of Welschriesling, Zweigelt or mineral water.
