we stayed at Schloss Johannisberg and had lunch there at the Schlosschaenke auf dem Johannisberg. Chef Simon Kieslich greeted us and treated us with an extra course. In my view, the lunch was at the Bib Gourmand Michelin/ 1 Star Michelin level. 

 

As dessert, some of us had a piece of cake. Typically, Germans do not eat a piece of cake with lunch but 2 hours or so later with an afternoon-coffee. or afternoon-tea.

Schlosschaenke auf dem Johannisberg

In an annexe of the centuries-old Schloss Johannisberg – the world's first Riesling wine estate – this bright, friendly restaurant has a wonderful conservatory and terrace. Thanks to its elevated location, it commands a wonderful view of the region and the Rhine. The food is fresh, classic cuisine with seasonal and regional influences served in a four- or five-course set menu format or à la carte. Appetising options include "Schloss Bouillabaisse", beef tenderloin Wellington, braised beef roulade and crêpes Suzette flambéed tableside. Various types of caviar also feature on the menu. Simple regional plates such as Spundekäs (spiced cream cheese) or "Rheingauer Schnittchen" (crusty bread with spreads) are also delicious with a glass of wine. Tip: There is also a wine shop.

The May Effingham American Wine Society meeting will be jointly conducted with the John Marshall chapter on Saturday May 16, 630pm social time, 7pm tasting . Yes, please note we will meet on Sat and start at 6:30 for this one.. The meeting will be at Effingham Manor and the address is 14325 Trotters Ridge Pl, Nokesville, VA 20181. We will meet in the event center for this one.
 
A special tasting this month, the theme this month is a comparison of Riesling and Chenin Blanc and will be led by Annette Schiller. The first 16 to reply from our chapter are in. I promise it will be educational and fun. The cost will be $25 per person to cover wines, food, supplies, etc. RSVP to both myself and Doug Beakes (awsbeakes@gmail.com) and by sending $25 to Doug’s Zelle account (under my phone 703-6626-0313). If you can’t do Zelle, please let me know you will bring $25 cash to the meeting.
