Second Stop: Bolgheri (Tuscany)

This was an organized group tour, led by wine journalist Giuseppe Lauria. We spent 4 nights in Bolgheri.

Day 2 in Bolgheri 

We began the day with a visit of Tenuta Argentiera, comprising a winery tour and a tasting.

For lunch we went to Osteria Magona. which has a Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide.

Lunch at Osteria Magona

The Osteria Magona Restaurant in Bolgheri, serving the finest grilled meat, recounts a long and passionate culinary journey that began in 2004 in the center of Bolgheri and has now moved to the traditional Tuscan farmhouse, Vallone dei Messi, on the Bolgherese, the renowned Wine Route. Here, amidst the vineyards and near the largest Bolgheri DOC wineries, he has created a unique restaurant, nestled in the open countryside and overlooking the sea. 

Chef Omar Barsacchi welcomes you to the cradle of Tuscan and Mediterranean cuisine, where the selection of meats from Dario Cecchini, the renowned butcher from Panzano, reigns supreme. Along with his wife Marina and son Rocco, they have established their entrepreneurial venture in a simple, family-friendly atmosphere, respecting all things Italian.  

Osteria Magona (Michelin)

Amidst vineyards and the renowned cypress avenue, Osteria Magona is a must-visit for meat enthusiasts and Tuscan regional cuisine aficionados. Impeccable are the famous soups, from ribollita to pappa al pomodoro, alongside gnudi and fresh pastas. The wine list offers ample room to various Bolgheri labels.

Day 2 in Bolgheri

We began the day with a visit of Tenuta Argentiera, comprising a winery tour and a tasting.

Tenuate Argentiera (wine-searcher) 

Tenuta Argentiera Bolgheri is an Italian wine producer situated in Bolgheri on Tuscany's southern coastline. The 500-hectare (1236-acre) estate produces a collection of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot amoungst others under the Bolgheri and Toscana IGT classifications.

The Tenuta Argentiera Bolgheri estate is located on plateau, over looking the Tyrrhenian coastline. A 200 meter (656 feet) altitude creates a favourable microclimate, allowing sea breezes to penetrate the canopy and reduce the risk of various mildew disease. The name Argentiera is derived from the silver ("argento") mines that once exsisted scattered throughout the landscape here. 

The main focus of the estate lies with its Bolgheri Superiore and Bolgheri Rosso wines. The flagship Argentiera Bolgheri Superiore is a blend typically of Cabernet Sauvignonand Merlot with a small portion of Cabernet Franc. It spends 18 months aging in French oak barriquesprior to 12 months in bottle before release. 

Other notable wines in the portfolio include the Poggio Ai Ginepri collection, a trio of Bolgheri Rosso, Bolgheri Rosato and a Vermentino.
