Spain - Cellar Group Dinner (January 2026), Hosted by Maureen Kelly and Fuad Issa in McLean, Virginia

In the US in Virginia, Annette and I belong to the "Wine from our Cellar" group of wine and food lovers that meet regularly at the home of one of the members for a small-bite wine-pairing dinner. Each guest brings one bottle of wine from his or her cellar with a small-bite dish and presents the wine and the dish to the group.

The January 2026, gathering was hosted by Maureen Kelly and Fuad Issa at their McLean home. The theme of the event was "Spain". Everybody had to bring a Spanish wine with a small Spanish dish. This time there were 18 of us and thus 18 bottles of Spanish wine - sparkling, rose, white, red and fortified (Sherry) - and 18 different small plates.

I brought a Bodegas Baigorri Rioja with chorizo tapas.

My favorites - among many outstanding wines and dishes - were the 2014 Clos Mogador (Priorat) that Rex brought and the Pintxos Matrimonio that Susan brought.

Thanks again Maureen and Fuad for hosting and Grant Crandall for organizing this wonderful evening. Looking forward to the next Cellar Group evening in 3 months.

Visiting a Stunning Winery: Bodegas Baigorri in Rioja, Spain

As part of the 2013 Digital Wine Communications Conference (DWCC), I had the luck and pleasure to spend an extraordinary evening at Bodegas Baigorri, an amazing winery in the Rioja Alavesa region.

The 2013 DWCC – formerly called European Wine Bloggers Conference - took place in Logroño (Spain) from Friday, October 25 to Sunday, October 27, 2013. The DWCC is a three-day event that provides a platform for the global wine community to address today's online communications opportunities. As in previous years, the 2013 conference was a highly entertaining and educational mix of workshops, lectures, tastings and winery visits with lunches/dinners.
