In dem fiktiven Dorf Bewersfeld macht der jüdische Viehhändler Sigmund Mahrani aus dem bescheidenen Geschäft seines Vaters ein florierendes Unternehmen. Seine Frau Jolanta weckt die Neugier des ganzen Dorfes. Doch die Bewohner von Bewersfeld verstricken sich schuldhaft. Davon erfährt Frank Benntrup, als er im Jahr 2006 sein Heimatdorf nach vielen Jahren besucht. Auch mit ihm haben die früheren Ereignisse mehr zu tun, als ihm zunächst bewusst ist. My friend Berthold not only loves wine, but also literature. Now he has written his first novel. The story takes place in Münsterland. In the fictional village of Bewersfeld, the Jewish cattle dealer Sigmund Mahrani turns his father's modest business into a thriving company. His wife Jolanta arouses the curiosity of the whole village. But the residents of Bewersfeld get culpably entangled.
