Lunch at Granpanorama Hotel Sambergerhof, Famous for its Uninterrupted 54-kilometer Panoramic View of the Dolomites Chain - Alto Adige 2026 by ombiasy WineTours

Alto Adige 2026 by ombiasy WineTours, led by Annette Schiller, took place from Sunday, September 06 - Sunday, September 13, 2026.

Being the northernmost wine region of Italy, Alto Adige is a very special place where Italian and German traditions merge. It is a fascinating and unique region in the Alpes. It boasts of an extraordinary variety of landscapes: snow-capped mountains in the Dolomites, fertile valleys, streams, century-old breathtakingly beautiful towns true to their hybrid Germanic-Italian culture.

During this tour we did not change hotels. We stayed 7 nights at the famous, beautiful 5-star Art-Nouveau style Parkhotel Laurin in Bozen.

At Cantina Terlan harvest was in full swing and we could witness the winegrowers delivering their fruit, Pinot Blanc.

Lunch at Granpanorama Hotel Sambergerhof

The view from the Granpanorama Hotel Sambergerhof is famous for its uninterrupted 54-kilometer (33-mile) panoramic vista of the Dolomites chain.

Situated at an altitude of 1,500 meters (4,921 feet) in Villanders (Villandro), South Tyrol, the property looks out over the scenic Eisack Valley (Valle d'Isarco).

Iconic Peaks: The vantage point offers a direct line of sight to legendary Dolomite massifs, including the Schlern (Sciliar), Seiser Alm (Alpe di Siusi), Rosengarten (Catinaccio), and extending all the way to the Schwarzhorn and Weißhorn (Black and White Horn).

The Dolomites

The Dolomites are a spectacular mountain range located in northeastern Italy, forming a part of the Southern Limestone Alps. Renowned for their distinct, jagged limestone peaks, sheer vertical walls, and deep glacial valleys, they were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009. The highest peak is the Marmolada, reaching 3,343 meters (10,968 feet) above sea level.

The range spans over 140,000 hectares across five Italian provinces: South Tyrol, Trentino, Belluno, Pordenone, and Udine. Because parts of the region belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire until World War I, it features a unique blend of Italian and Austrian cultures.

Historically, the range was known as the "Pale Mountains" due to the light coloration of its rocks. They were eventually named after the French naturalist Déodat de Dolomieu, who identified the unique magnesium-rich carbonate rock (dolomite) that forms them. A trademark phenomenon of the region is L'Enrosadira (Alpenglow). At sunrise and sunset, the mineral composition of the pale vertical cliffs catches the light, causing the peaks to glow in brilliant shades of pink, orange, and deep violet.
