Dear wine friends,

I just came back from NYC where I caught the tasting of the Union des Grands Crus Bordeaux road show through Canada and the US showing the current release vintage.

The current release is vintage 2022 and I was blown away: the BEST I have ever tasted across all appellations. Saint-Estèphe and Pessac-Leognan were still a tiny bit tannic but overall: unbelievably gorgeous wines which applies to the reds as well as to the whites. Count Neipperg, owner of Canon-La Gaffelliére in Saint-Émilion said: "a once in a lifetime vintage - the best after the sensational 1959 vintage - so glad I am alive to see this vintage.”

Luck has it that I planned a wine tour to Bordeaux in 2025. From experience I know that during my wine tours we will taste many older vintages but also always the current release vintage, hence this gorgeous 2022 wines!

The Bordeaux region is probably one of the most famous wine-growing regions in France and the entire world. The city of the same name is the capital of the Gironde department with the estuary of the same name in the southwest of France and is considered one of the most beautiful wine cities in the world. The Bordeaux wine region is a big area and during our tour we explore every corner of it.

Join us as we explore Margaux, Saint-Julien, Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe, Médoc, Saint-Emilion, Pomerol, Sauternes, Pessac-Léognan, Entre-Deux-Mers, where we will visit world-renowned classified Châteaux, classified under-the-radar Châteaux, and so-called “Petits-Châteaux” producing phenomenal wines. Wine and food, that’s so important in Bordeaux, and wine pairing lunches or dinners at famous châteaux with the owner or Managing Director are an almost daily routine. Besides doing Châteaux hopping, I will also show you other aspects of “Bordeaux” that the usual wine tours do not do: we will be introduced to the “Place de Bordeaux” buying and selling system unique in Bordeaux by visiting a négociant houset; we will visit a cooper to see from A to Z how a barrique is being made; we go to the basin d’Arcachon to see how an oyster is raised; we will experience the big bodies of water so important for the Bordeaux climate and the production of its famous wines: the mighty Gironde estuary and the Atlantic ocean. Instead of sitting for 3 to 4 hours in traffic every day going back and forth to Bordeaux city we will travel around, spending nights in the heart of the Left Bank in Pauillac and in the heart of the Right Bank in Saint-Émilion to “feel” the vineyards; and of course we will spend some time in the vibrant, hip, cultural, very cool city of Bordeaux with its countless wine bars, and exquisite restaurants.

The itinerary will be similar to the sample itinerary on the website. An additional lunch will be organized at Château Angelus. I recently met Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, owner of Château Angelus and he suggested that we come for lunch. The hotels listed on the website will be the places where the group will stay.

At this point I am still open for suggestions of estates to visit and if possible I will incorporate your suggestions into the itinerary. So please feel free to contact me if you have a special place in Bordeaux you always wanted to visit.

On the registration page you find all information on pricing and how to sign up for the tour:   https://ombiasypr.com/index.php/wine-tours/bordeaux/bordeaux-registration
Don’t hesitate to call me, to send me an email or a what’s app message, etc. for all the questions you may have. I am very happy to answer all your queries..

Don’t miss the opportunity to taste a “once in a lifetime vintage” right in the regions where the wines were made, to talk to the winemakers about it and of course to enjoy older vintage for comparison.

Have a great weekend.

CHEERS
Annette

About Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux (UGCB)

The primary mission… From Tokyo to Montreal, passing through New York, London, and Paris, the Union members pursue their main objective, in collaboration with distributors, brokers, and merchants: to meet nearly 40,000 professionals and enthusiasts worldwide each year to present their latest vintages. Thus, driven by the owners of Châteaux or their estate directors, approximately 80 events and gatherings are held annually in about fifteen countries: France, of course, Europe (Germany, Great Britain, Belgium, Switzerland, the Netherlands), the Americas (United States, Canada), and Asia (Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore). It appears that the Union has often been a pioneer in opening pathways to these markets, particularly in Asia.
