Dear friends and fellow travelers,
I think it is important that you hear from me how I assess the situation in France and what my plans are for the tour in view of the Corona virus.
I am currently in Frankfurt, Germany and monitor the situation closely. Both Germany and France have 2.300 cases each as of today. The “Grand East” region (Alsace, Lothringen, Champagne-Ardenne) in France is the most hit. There are only a few cases in the Northern and Southern Rhône area.
There are still 3 months to go before the tour starts and I am under the impression that the situation in France will have stabilized by then. The infrastructure of the health sector (hospitals, test kits, test centers, etc) is excellent and very well prepared for handling the situation. The government and local authorities are constantly monitoring the situation and put in effect school and university closings, as well as cancellations of cultural events such as theaters, concerts, opera performances, etc. to reign in the contamination.
At this point I am planning to go ahead with the tour as planned. I am monitoring the situation on a daily basis and will keep you posted regularly.
I was planning to travel to the US next week but in view of the restriction the US government put in place for travel from the EU I will stay in Frankfurt, hence I keep my ears to the ground on this side of the big pond.
