Greetings Fellow Wine Lovers,

Our 2025 meeting schedule is rockin' along.  We had a great turnout for John Sporing’s excellent presentation on "Unraveling the Mystery of Fortified Wines – Port, Sherry, Madeira, and Beyond!  As always, thank you, John!

Up next for March is another of our favorite presenters.  Annette Schiller will be leading us in the first of a two part educational session on German wines.  (The second part will be this time next year).   As most of you know, Annette was born and raised in Germany and is extremely knowledgeable on wines from around the world, but especially those from Germany, France, and Austria.  In addition to being a popular wine educator, Annette also shares her knowledge by leading European wine tours via her tour company, Ombiasy Tours.

For our meeting on Friday, March 7th,  Annette will present Magnificent Germany: A Deep Dive into the Rich Tapestry of Germany’s Wine Regions”.  German winemaking is renowned for its historic significance and its signature ‘Riesling’ grape.  In this presentation, we'll learn about the basics of the German wine world; the classification system for German wine, and about the Riesling grape and its expression of terroir, ranging from cool climate regions of 51° N latitude to warmer regions in the South.  We'll also delve into why the same Riesling wine can be made bone dry or fruity sweet.  In addition, we’ll learn about and taste Germany`s signature red grape, Spätburgunder  or as we know it, Pinot Noir, and understand how that wine varies between terroirs composed of slate versus limestone.
