Jean Trimbach of legendary Maison Trimbach in Alsace, France, was in town (Washington DC) and Annette was able to participate in a winemaker dinner with Jean at Restaurant Matisse In Bethesda. In fact, she was seated next to Jean.
Invitation
We’re excited to invite you to a truly special evening—Jean Trimbach, seventh-generation owner of the legendary Maison Trimbach, is joining us in DC for a spring dinner at Matisse on Wednesday, May 21st from 6:30-9:30pm.
If you’ve ever enjoyed a glass of Trimbach, you know these wines are all about balance, precision, and a sense of place. They’ve been crafting beautiful, dry wines in Alsace since 1626—and Jean will be with us to share his family’s story, pour some incredible bottles, and guide us through what makes these wines so timeless.
We’ll
be pairing seven Trimbach wines with a five-course seasonal menu that
highlights the best of spring and the incredible versatility of these
wines. It’s going to be an evening of great food, great wine, and great
conversation—casual, elegant, and full of character.

Maison Trimbach is one of the oldest wineries in the French wine region of Alsace. Dating back to 1626, Trimbach is well-known for its Riesling wines. In particular, one made from the small Clos Sainte Hune vineyard, which is considered one of the finest Alsatian expressions of the grape.
Alongside Riesling, Trimbach has a range of classic Alsace varieties within its wine portfolio. These include Sylvaner, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Blanc, Muscat and Pinot Noir. The collection covers a range of styles, but dry, ageworthy wines with great minerality are Trimbach's specialty. The house makes a few Vendages Tardives and Selection de Grains Nobles wines, as well as some Eaux-de-Vie in select vintages.
Located in Ribeauville,Trimbach is surrounded by limestone- and fossil-rich vineyards protected by the Vosges Mountains.Trimbach has plots in several grand cru vineyards, including Geisberg and Osterberg.
The most important plot is the walled Clos Sainte Hune vineyard, which lies within the larger Rosacker Grand Cru vineyard of Hunawihr. This plot has been in the family for more than 200 years and produces wine with high minerality and ageability. Even though this wine comes from a grand cru vineyard, it is not labelled as such; Trimbach has shunned the title in favor of the prestigious Clos Sainte Hune name.
The house has been in the Trimbach family for centuries. Frédéric Emile Trimbach received the highest distinction for his wines at the International Wine Fair in Brussels in 1898, this was a pivotal point for the success and notoriety of the brand. In 1920, Frédéric Théodore, his son, moved the family business to Ribeauville to make way for expansion. The house is still located there today under the leadership of the 12th and 13th generations: Hubert Trimbach, his daughter Anne and his nephews Jean and Pierre.
