This was our last meal in Alto Adige and our last meal of the whole Italy tour 2025. We were a bit disappointed but still enjoyed a nice evening. Wirtshaus Voegele is a great place to have dinner but in our view it is not at the Bib Gourmand Michelin level.
Voegele (Michelin - Bib Gourmand)
This restaurant is a Bolzano institution. It is a typical inn whose origins are lost in the mists of time, and is still furnished in traditional Biedermeier - style. The menu focuses on regional cuisine, with an occasional hint of the Mediterranean.
Simple. Good. Traditional (Wirtshaus Voegele)
Here food is prepared according to tradition - old recipes garnished with new ideas. We leave trends to the others. If you are serious about South Tyrolean cuisine - the Wiener Schnitzel, the Knödel - our buttered or soupy dumplings, the Erdäpfelblattln-a typical specialty consisting of a simple potato paste cooked in clarified butter and served with sauerkrautor our sublime apricot dumplings - crispy outside, warm, soft and deliciously sumptuous inside, then look no further - here our culture is served on a plate. Our `stuben´are the ideal place to meet, drink coffee, organise business lunches or spend an evening with friends. A local hotspot, where South Tyroleans congregate to celebrate the weekend and anything else really!

In the vibrant heart of Bolzano’s old town, the historic Wirtshaus Vögele – once known as the “Roter Adler” – has become a favourite gathering place for people of all generations. Run by the Alber family, the restaurant offers something for everyone: whether it’s a morning coffee, a leisurely lunch or a fine dinner, the Wirtshaus Vögele caters to all. In the evenings, it becomes a lively pub, perfect for socialising. Guests can enjoy the atmosphere outside under the arcades, at the bar or in the cosy parlours. The wood-panelled “Goethestube” dining room captures the essence of rustic inn culture, while a covered atrium leads to the upper floors, where guests will find the charming Biedermeier parlours and the modern “Kamaunstube” dining room. The menu features seasonal South Tyrolean delicacies.
The Alber family has run the Wirtshaus Vögele with care and commitment since 1993. Father Willy, a veteran in the kitchen, oversees operations, while his wife Birgitt charms the guests and creates a welcoming atmosphere. Son Damian and daughter Leonie are also actively involved, continuing the family tradition.
