Being
the northernmost wine region of Italy, Alto Adige is a very
special place where Italian and German traditions merge. It is a
fascinating and unique region in the Alpes. It boasts of an
extraordinary variety of landscapes: snow-capped mountains in the
Dolomites, fertile valleys, streams, century-old breathtakingly
beautiful towns true to their hybrid Germanic-Italian culture.
During this tour we did not change
hotels. We stayed 7 nights at the famous, beautiful 5-star Art-Nouveau
style Parkhotel Laurin in Bozen.

Guided Visit of Oetzi, the Iceman, at South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology
The South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bozen owes its fame to a single, extraordinary discovery. On September 19, 1991, a German couple hiking in the Ötztal Alps stumbled upon a body emerging from a melting glacier at the Tisenjoch pass, 9,500 feet above sea level. What they had found was Ötzi, a man who lived and died more than 5,000 years ago, making him Europe's oldest known natural mummy and one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of the modern era. Because Ötzi's body was sealed in ice almost immediately after his death, it survived in remarkable condition, along with his clothing, tools, and weapons. This combination has given researchers an unprecedented window into daily life at the close of the Neolithic period, revealing details about diet, health, clothing technology, and even the circumstances of his violent death from an arrow wound. The museum, opened in 1998, presents this material with scientific rigor alongside accessible storytelling, walking visitors through Ötzi's equipment, his likely last days, and the forensic techniques used to reconstruct his life. A climate-controlled cell allows a view of the mummy itself under the same icy conditions in which it was preserved.
