Elyse of Chef Jonathan Krinn - A new (Michelin?) Star Rising in Fairfax City, Northern Virginia, USA (December 2024)

Without doubt, Jonathan Krinn is one of the top chefs in the greater Washington DC area. Annette Schiller Ombiasy Public Relations and Wine Tours and I have been following him for many years, first when he was the Executive Chef at Restaurant 2941, then at Clarity in Vienna, Virginia and more recently at the posh WineLair Club in Washington DC.

Now, this gifted chef is back in Fairfax City, with "Elyse", a boutique 30-seat restaurant (including eight at a bar wrapped around an open kitchen), where he serves a $125 five-course French-inspired, globally-influenced tasting menu from Thursday to Sunday that changes monthly.

Yesterday, there were offer options for 2 of the 5 courses plus an off-menu add-on special - foie gras - which we also took. In addition, there were in-between courses.

As for the wines, it’s not a long list full of big names but a short list of 15 highly interesting wines to go with the food, all available by the bottle and by the glass. A pairing option is available for $85 a person. Alternatively, we brought 2 bottles from our cellar - a dry German Grand Cru and an aged Margaux - for $35 corkage fee each.

Overall, it was a most pleasant experience yesterday evening, dining at the Michelin-star level in a relaxed, intimite and private atmosphere. Annette felt it could have been in a top-notch hipster restaurant in the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin.
