Dear wine friends,

You all know that I am very much into German wine and that I was for years bewildered about the image German wine had outside of Germany, in particular in the US. There was - and still is so much going on in the wine world in Germany. The wine landscape had shifted to ultra-premium dry whites, then to red wines, in particular beautiful Pinot Noir, and stunning sparkling wines on par with many Champagnes. However most of these wines did not and still do not make the trip across the Atlantic Ocean.

I am soooooo stoked: Two weeks ago two major articles on German wine appeared in two major world newspapers:

On March 22, Eric Asimov of The New York Times writes about the  2021 vintage and its climate conditions (much cooler and more rain than in previous years). Read the article here.

Three days later, on March 25, Jancis Robinson writes a fascinating articles in the Financial Times: This is her core sentence: "German wine has completely transformed itself in recent years, but fine-wine buyers seem stubbornly unaware of the fact.” Yes! that sentence soothed my soul. Read the article here.

Christian summed up both articles in his blog posting here.

For the curious ones among you and for those who would like to delve into the German wines of the present I have a suggestion: come with me and travel with me from Berlin to Frankfurt. This tour shows you German wines at its best off the beaten paths and also the regions where the heart of German history and culture lies. The tour starts on June 19th in Berlin and ends on June 29th in Frankfurt. Next to wine you also will experience fabulous music events: the Bach organ, the famous Gewandhaus, Dresden Opera and the Mozartfestival in Würzburg. For this tour I have 1 double room and 1 single available. You can read the itinerary here.

I wish all of you peaceful Easter and Passover holidays and many excellent wines to share with family and friends.

Annette
