#wine #germany Annette Schiller and I were very honored that the Ministry of Economy of the State of Rheinland-Pfalz asked us to be present at the Day of Unity Celebration at the German Embassy Washington USA to represent the 6 wineries whose wines were poured at the event and to be available for any questions the 2000 guests might have. Except for one, we knew all the winemakers personally. 

 

The German Embassy in Washington DC celebrated the German National Day on September 30, this year in cooperation with the State of Rheinland-Pfalz. The state was represented by a high-level delegation, headed by Minister President Alexander Schweitzer and including Minister of Economy Daniela Schmitt and Department Head, Ministry of Economy, Walter Reineck (who was in charge of the wine program of the event). With Rheinland-Pfalz being Germany's #1 wine growing state, wine from the Mosel, Pfalz, Rheinhessen, Nahe - sparkling, white and red - was at the center of this year's celebration.

 

The State of Rheinland-Pfalz and in particular its Capital Mainz is very close to our hearts. We spent 10 years in Mainz, got married there, 2 of our daughters were borne there and we both graduated from the University of Mainz in Economics. From there we moved in 1983 to Washington DC because I was hired by the International Monetary Fund.
