Founded in 1997, 18 days with around 60 events and approximately 6,500 guests – that’s the Rheingau Gourmet & Wein Festival, one of the most renowned gourmet festivals worldwide, held at Hotel Kronenshloesslichen in the small village of Hattenheim in the Rheingau, about 45 minutes away from Frankfurt by car.
World stars are showing up at the festival: around one third of all three-star chefs in the world have already made a guest appearance at this festival. Wine always plays a central role and what makes the events so special is that the winemakers or winery owners are always there in person to present their wines.
Torsten Bender - Sein Karlsruhe 2 Stars Michelin
Thorsten Bender's creative cuisine certainly explains the popularity of this little restaurant nestled on a quiet residential street. The chef's distinctive style shines through in his technically accomplished, clearly structured dishes, into which he seamlessly incorporates Asian flavours. The power and intensity of the flavours are as impressive as the finesse and refreshing accents. Top-notch ingredients take centre stage, such as Icelandic ikejime char confit in ox marrow fat with roasted leek, leek ash, white Alba truffle and verjus sauce. The upscale interior has a chic, modern feel. You are looked after friendly and professionally – the chefs are also on hand to serve their dishes. The evening set menu consists of six to eight courses, with optional specials to add on. A vegetarian alternative is available by prior arrangement. Their "Midweek Special" comes in the form of a five-course surprise menu (available Wed, Thu and Sun evenings). At lunchtime, the four- to eight-course set menu can also be "upgraded" with extra dishes.
