Germany "From Berlin to Frankfurt" 2023 (Saale Unstrut, Sachsen, Franken, Württemberg) by ombiasy WineTours took place from Monday, June 19, 2023 to Thursday, June 29, 2023.
In Sachsen, we stayed one day and one night in Meissen and visited Weingut Martin Schwarz and Weingut Schloss Proschwitz, Prinz zur Lippe, as well as the Porzellanmanufaktur Meissen, where we saw close-up how the world-famous Meissen china and porcelain figurines are made. Since its founding in 1710, the Meissen porcelain manufactory has stood for the highest quality porcelain and for outstanding craftmanship.
We spent the night at the Parkhotel in Meissen - a beautiful 4-star hotel built in 1870 in the art nouveau style with stunning views across the Elbe River to the Meissen Cathedral and the Albrechtsburg - and had dinner at Restaurant Ohm’s im Parkhotel Meissen.
For lunch, we went to Restaurant Vincenz Richter, right in the middle of Meissen.
While at previous visits Gottfried Herrlich had received us, this time we were hosted by his grandson Julian Herrlich.
Restaurant and Weingut Vincenz Richter
Weingut Vincenz Richter is a leading wine producer in Sachsen. The
winery and the restaurant were founded in 1873 by Vincent Anton Richter. It survived the GDR times and Thomas Herrlich is now the 4th
generation of the founding family to manage the winery and the
restaurant.
The vineyard area of Weingut Vincent Richter totals 8 hectares. 90% of the production is accounted for by white grape varieties, including Riesling (50%), Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, Kerner, Scheurebe, Traminer, Weißburgunder and Grauburgunder.
The cozy restaurant is in a beautiful 500-year old half-timbered building in the historic city center of Meissen.
Restaurant Vincenz Richter - Fodor
Fodor: Tucked away in a yellow wooden-beam house, this historic restaurant has been painstakingly maintained by the Richter family since 1873. The dining room is adorned with rare antiques, documents, and medieval weapons, as well as copper and tin tableware. Guests can savor the exquisite dishes on the Saxon-German menu while sampling the restaurant's own personally produced white wine; a bottle of the Riesling is a real pleasure. Try the delicious wild rabbit with bacon-wrapped plums, paired with a glass of Kerner Meissener Kapitelberg, and cleanse your palate between courses with an inspiring Riesling sorbet.
