Alto Adige 2026 by ombiasy WineTours, led by Annette Schiller, took place from Sunday, September 06 - Sunday, September 13, 2026.
Being
the northernmost wine region of Italy, Alto Adige is a very
special place where Italian and German traditions merge. It is a
fascinating and unique region in the Alpes. It boasts of an
extraordinary variety of landscapes: snow-capped mountains in the
Dolomites, fertile valleys, streams, century-old breathtakingly
beautiful towns true to their hybrid Germanic-Italian culture.
During this tour we did not change
hotels. We stayed 7 nights at the famous, beautiful 5-star Art-Nouveau
style Parkhotel Laurin in Bozen.

The program for the third day was:
Muri-Gries is a historic Benedictine monastery and winery known for its Lagrein wines, dating back to the 13th century. The visit included a tour of the monastery, the famous Klosteranger vineyard and the wine cellar as well as a tasting of the wine portfolio. Technical Director Manfred Bernhard joined us for a part of the tour and the tasting.
(2) Cantina Nals Margreid. Winery tour and tasting.
(3) Lunch @Gasthof Apollonia, a Michelin rated historic inn up in the mountains with stunning panoramic views of the Dolomites and traditional South Tyrolean cuisine.
(4) Visit of Weingut Untermoserhof in St. Magdalena.
Current owner and winemaker Florian Ramoser was our host, along with his father Georg Ramoser. This winery belongs to the group of small family owned wineries, which account for 10% of the wine production in Alto Adige. Large private wineries account for 20% and co-operatives for 70%. Importantly, the co-ops in Alto Adige are all elite wine producers, with the co-operative Terlan probably being the flagship producer of the area. Florian's #worldclass wines are available in the USA through Schatzi Wines
(5) Winding down with a bottle of Lagrein at Toma by Lisa wine bar, our favorite wine bar in Bozen.Cantina /Kellerei Nals Margreid
Kellerei Nals Margreid takes its compound name from the 1985 merger of two established
cooperatives: Nals, founded in 1932 in the Adige Valley north of Bozen, and Margreid-Entiklar,
founded in 1954 much farther south near the Trentino border. The result is an unusual winery
whose roughly 140 grower-members farm 14 distinct vineyard areas spread across nearly the entire
length of South Tyrol's wine country, from around 800 to 2700 ft in elevation, giving the
cooperative access to an exceptional range of microclimates within a single label.
The winery's roots
run deeper still: its headquarters occupy the historic Campi estate, built in 1764, now home to the
Vinotheque 1764 tasting room. A striking 2011 expansion, with reddish-brown exposed-concrete
walls and a folded roof over the barrique cellar, paired contemporary architecture with the site's
centuries-old history.
In Nals, cooler high-altitude sites favor the traditional Vernatsch grape and
elegant Pinot Blanc, notably from the Sirmian vineyard; in Margreid's warmer south, structured
reds dominate, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux varieties long associated with
the area.
Under cellar master Harald Schraffl, Nals Margreid has built a reputation for terroir-
driven wines that showcase this geographic diversity, with the Sirmian Pinot Blanc earning
recognition as one of Italy's finest whites from the influential Gambero Rosso wine guide.
